This past weekend we had dance contest for both girls. Mom and I took them and Jon stayed home with Lincoln. It was held at the Wayzata Central Middle School. Believe it or not, I drove right to it and it only took us about an hour and 15 minutes to get there.
The girls looked beautiful. Mercedes had to be there by 10am and danced at 11am and Sierra had to be to her spot by 1:45pm and danced at 2:45pm. Mercedes' hair had to be in curlers and we took those out at contest. The night before she was crying that she didn't want curlers or makeup and I told her she absolutely had to and didn't have a choice. I think she was overly tired because Saturday morning she was just fine with it. She looked just precious. She looked petrified when I dropped her off at the KMC Dance Studio dressing room. I gave her a hug and she was with all of her friends at this time, so she was ok, but she still looked really scared. Cam is her best friend and is in dance as well and so she was a little more at ease with her there, but I just felt so bad. We watched some dances prior to bringing them back and she just stared and had this scared, petrified look in her eyes. The competition is held in the gym and it was absolutely packed. I thought for sure that one of the girls wouldn't end up going out there. (Her group has 7 girls in it.) Sierra's attitude has always been, "Wow, I'm beautiful and everyone will be staring at me, me, me!" She loves being in the spotlight. The more people to watch, the better she feels. Mercedes' attitude is, "I'm here to do my job. Get out of my way, let me do it, and get me off the dance floor." Poor girl. Anyway, we saw the girls all lined up along the sidelines and when their music started, they all slid into their dance homes and I was never so proud of Mercedes as I was at that point. I knew how scared she was and yet she went out and danced! I just cried and the tears kept falling and I was trying to take pictures, too! lol. She did her dance just perfect. Believe it or not, she's the one that the girls all look to and they follow her. If she was to do the wrong dance move, the entire group would do it wrong. Literally, for some reason, she gets it perfect and so she pulled all of them through. I was so proud of her! When they slid into their homes, the entire crowd said, "oooooohhhhh" and the crowd clapped numerous times during their dance for them. It was absolutely adorable. They wore these pink frilly costumes with glitter and stuff and a big rhinestone buckle in the front. Mercedes held her head high during her toe stamps and she even remembered to do that! Oh, I'm tearing up again. Wow. The crowd roared when they were done. It was great! After they were done, they had to wait for their award and they all sat like little angels on the carpet. Wow, what an awesome kid! We had a little bit of time before Sierra's first ballet dance (Mercedes' was tap) and she was the best ever! I was soooo extremely proud of her!! She smiled the entire time she was out there, didn't get lost in her dance and she found me in the crowd!! Her moves were just elequent and perfect and she just flowed into each step. It was absolutely beautiful. Her costume was red and to the music of "That's Amore". (Mercedes' song was "It's my party (and I'll cry if I want to.)) Sierra's costume is a red velvet leotard with black sequins and a red tu-tu. Sierra's hair was in a low ponytail with her hair parted on the left and a big red rose on the right side. She looked gorgeous. She looks waaay older than 7! Both girls got a silver award (based upon points) and they have a ribbon. On Sunday it was just Sierra to dance and Mercedes didn't go with because she was up the whole night Saturday night coughing. She wanted to go with soooo badly! Thank goodness she wasn't coughing during her dance. Thank you, Jesus! Sierra did her "Pool Party" dance and she had on this flowered blue costume with her midriff showing and lots of ruffles. It looks similar to a 2 piece swimsuit. She looked awesome! The kids love this dance and it sooo showed. The crowd clapped and cheered numerous times during this dance, too, because they were so good. I was just in awe. Sierra looked so old out there and she did each of the moves perfectly. All of the kids were in sync with eachother and looked like they were having a blast. They received a silver award for this song as well. They were AWESOME! I couldn't help it, but I bought each of them a trophy. I was soooo proud of each of them and so I gave it to them when we got home on Sunday. All Mercedes kept saying was, "Mom, it's my very first trophy!" She was so proud of it!!! It actually worked out well because they put their ribbons on it and both of them look very nice on their wall.
Did I tell you how PROUD I AM OF MY GIRLS? Woooo hooooooo!!!!!!! THEY DID AWESOME!!!!!!
Peace.
