The Locked Screen Door - Sierra Story

We moved to the farm when Sierra was one so that was in '99. Our house was soooo icky, but we made do and now it's just perfect. Anyway, We had just put a new screen door on and there was a lock on it. We had just gotten home from work and I put Sierra (I would say she was bout 3 yrs old by this time) in the house so I could carry the stuff in from the truck. I saw her playing with the lock, but didn't think anything of it. It is a full length, glass door and so we were making funny faces at eachother while I was walking to the door. I tried the door and it was locked. I tried to sweet talk her into unlocking the door and it just didn't work. I was being nice for about the first 15 minutes and it just didn't work. She wasn't strong enough to get the door unlocked. I wanted to stay calm so she wouldn't get scared, but I thought how on earth am I going to get in the house? I was getting frusterated and then I started crying and so did she. I felt so bad for her because her face was just tear-stained. I remembered I had my cell phone with me so I called Jon to see when he would be home and if he had any ideas on how to get into the house. Each door and window we thought of, was locked. Before we put the addition on in 2004, there was a hole in our house in the footings so the previous owners could throw wood into the house through this hole. I would say it was about 12"x12". There was a cover on the hole, but it made putting wood into the house a lot easier instead of having to bring it down the steps. Jon was home and looked at the hole and figured a friend of ours, Dan Meyer, would fit through the hole. (Jon and I would not be able to fit through the this hole.) It was kind of funny because we called Dan and told him we needed him to break into our house for us. lol. We explained to Sierra that Dan would be coming up from the basement to help her with the locked door. She knew Dan, so she was fine with that. Dan arrived and fit through the hole no problem and was able to unlock the door for her. She was soooo happy to be out of the house and I was so happy to be able to go into the house!! When the door was locked, we told her she had to stay on the other side and not roam around the house. If Dan wouldn't have fit, then we would have had to break a window, but we didn't want to have to resort to that either.

Now since we have our addition on, we have a programmable door opener so we don't need a key to get into the house. Now to remember what the code is. . . lol.

Peace.

ACADEMIC ALL STAR!!!

Sierra was chosen as an Academic All Star and so we got to attend a ceremony for her on August 04, 2006. We were able to bring Mercedes and Lincoln and it was held at the Mall of America. It was soooo much fun. We bought unlimited ride passes for the girls and they had a BLAST! We bought Lincoln some tickets as well and he loved it. All of the kids could have stayed much longer than what we did. Sierra got a certificate and it's ultimately for the kids who stand out in school and do a good job. A teacher nominates them. The ceremony was a pep talk and a magician and the kids loved him. I also bought her a t-shirt to commemorate the occasion. She was thrilled!

Peace.

Animals for sale and the RACES!!

Man, time really slips away from me. I wanted to post at least a few times each week and Yikes, that's not happening!!!

I took the kids to the McLeod County fair on Friday (well, there was a pedal pull, too). Mercedes took 3rd place and Sierra didn't place in the top 3. That's ok, though. She pedaled super hard and tried hard and that's all we ask of the kids. On our way home, we had to drive through Glencoe and so I thought we'd look at the animals in Oak Leaf park. There were a few deer right by the fence and Mercedes said, "Look mom! They are on sale!" I asked what she was talking about and she said, "Mommy, they have tags in their ears so they are on sale. Can we buy one?" lol. Tell me that wasn't just the cutest thing ever! I explained to her that they are tagged so people can keep track of them based upon the number on their tag.

I had a spa party at Tiffany Oestreich's house on Saturday so Jon took the 3 kids to the races in Arlington. He said they all loved it, but soon Mercedes was asking to go home and every time he would ask Lincoln if he was ready he quickly replied, "No, daddy!" and so they watched longer. Jon said finally around 9:30pm he asked Lincoln again if he wanted to go home and then he was ready so they left. Jon said next time he goes, he will just bring Lincoln. The girls were ok, but got bored with it, but he said Lincoln just stared and had an absolute blast. Lincoln told me again this morning that he watched the "race cars go round and round". lol.

Saturday afternoon Hawken and Leighton Rose came over to play with the girls and they had so much fun. Sierra and Leighton were so bummed that this year they weren't paired up together with the same teacher. They have been together since they were 3!! I took lots and lots of pictures of the 4 kids. They are all just too adorable!

Peace.
