Working on the pipeline

Jon has hooked up with another contractor from IA such that he and Dustin have become certified to work on the oil pipeline. They will be wiring these little substation things. Yesterday they drove to NE (only a 4 hr drive) and they should be home by tomorrow night sometime. Man, that was tough sleeping without Jon last night! I feel bad, though, because here the soldiers and their wives have slept without eachother for almost 2 years and I'm complaining about a few nights. Ugh. I really shouldn't be complaining at all. I did get the kids tucked into bed and I finally went to bed around midnight or so. I was a little freaked out staying in the house by myself with the kids because I worry about a fire or something and how am I to get the kids out all by myself, etc. Lincoln gave me a puppy to sleep with so I grabbed that, shut the lights off, but left the TV and put it on sleep for 2 hrs. Suddenly, I awoke to the alarm going off and it was morning! Funny thing (well maybe not so funny), but the kids didn't even hardly realize Jon never came home last night. So many times he doesn't get home until they are in bed and he leaves before they get up and they just know he slept at home. In some ways it didn't really bother them because they've been through this before only they do know that he wasn't actually home last night. Lincoln woke up this morning and saw Cory and Josh outside and was all excited because he was certain dad was home! I kept trying to tell him that it was Cory and Josh (Lincoln calls him "Gosh"). They all wear the Sibley Electric gear, so sometimes it's hard for Lincoln to tell the guys apart. We'll be glad when Jon's home, though!!!

Peace.

Oh, those naughty words get us in trouble

Sunday we (Jon, the 3 kids and I) were on our way to Rick and Pam's cabin to celebrate Conner's bday. Lincoln was just chattering away when he said, "Daddy, when I get big like you and you and you (pointing only to me and Jon, but he always gets too many "and you's" in there) I'm going to say naughty words, too!" Jon and I looked at eachother and just started snickering. We couldn't even look at him or we would have burst into laughter. Jon turned around and said, "Lincoln, mommy and daddy shouldn't be saying naughty words, so you just let us know when we say one." It was hilarious because it was like he was all excited that when he gets bigger, he can say that stuff, too. lol.

Out of the mouth of babes. . .

Mercedes can say her "R's"

Mercedes had tubes in and adenoids out on July 3rd, 2007. She was in surgery less than 30 minutes and she did wonderfully. She really handled it like a champ and never complained about a sore throat or anything!

Yesterday, she was talking and she said a word with an "r" in it and she said it just fine! She told us that she can't believe how well she can hear now. Ugh - breaks my heart that she was hearing so horribly! I guess thinking positive, at least we didn't wait any longer.

Peace.

No more thumb sucking!!!

I can't remember if I wrote in here before about Lincoln's thumb sucking or not. I bought this stuff like nail polish and put it on and it said generally after one application, the thumb sucking stops. Well, Lincoln seemed to not notice a bit, so I licked his thumbnail to see if it just really wasn't bad, but DEAR LORD! It was the most bitter, awful tasting stuff I have ever had! So, yes, it should have worked, but yet again, my son was tougher. lol.

One day a few weeks ago, Jon told Lincoln to show me his thumb and there was a HUGE blister on it. Jon said it looked like it was infected and I agree, it was extremely red around the edge of the blister. Jon said he was going to open it up and see what came out. Lincoln did just fine, and it was only water. However, Jon told him that his thumb would fall off if he kept sucking it. We told him that he needs 2 thumbs so he had to quit sucking it. We kept telling him how awful his thumb looked and that if he got another blister, then dad would have to open that one up, too. It was great because the skin from the blister was "flapping", but we didn't cut it off because that just added to the drama. lmao as I think about this.

No kidding after that, Lincoln hasn't sucked his thumb since. When we'd put him to bed, he would cry asking us if he could suck his thumb, but we kept reminding him about it falling off. We would check on him later and he'd be laying on his arm. Oooooh, he did that so the temptation would not be as bad. Ooooh, my little baby boy!

So, it's been a few weeks now and he's officially thumb-sucking free. Even in the car now, he doesn't suck his thumb, so I'm assuming he's not sucking it in the middle of the night either.

Last night we were tucking him in and he told us he was going to suck his thumb. Jon said, "What?!" Lincoln laughed and said, "No, me just pretend, Dad!!" I'm telling you, he's a little something. lol.

Peace.

We are driving the new car!!!

Jon is like the best guy in the whole entire world! He tried so hard to get the car done by my bday. He stayed up until 3am to get it finished!!! My bday was on Wednesday, so early Thursday morning he was finished with it. We have been driving it all over.

The only downfall is that I'm only getting 25 mpg and we were told it should be around 32-35. I'm not sure why it's so much less. Jon told me I have to really watch how fast I "take off" because that could be the problem, too.

It's absolutely hilarious to see the heads turn. I told Jon that I've never turned so many heads! lol.

We hear all the time, "What IS it?" They look shocked to see it's a '98 Honda Civic.

Now Jon wants to build a Drifter. The saga continues. . . ;0)

Peace.

Swimming lessons

I can't believe how long it's been again since I wrote in here. Ugh. Where does the time go?

Swim lessons finished on the 28th of June.

Let me first tell you about our lovely son at swim lessons. . . . . . The first day he loved it and did just fine. His teacher was Hannah who is also our babysitter. He cried the second day for the entire 1/2 hr. I didn't pay much attention because I knew he was fine and I was having fun talking with the other moms. :0) I told Lincoln that he couldn't go in the baby pool or have a treat because he cried during lessons. Mercedes and I went to the baby pool (because Sierra's lessons are 15 minutes longer) and I told Lincoln he had to sit on the bench and wait for us. He didn't care at all. Sierra came over and we decided it was time to go and Lincoln said he didn't want to go as he was watching the kids in the pool. Yeah, seriously, it didn't bother him a bit. Same thing happened on Friday and I made him skip a treat, too! I finally asked him why he cries and looked at me as though I was totally stupid and said, "Mom, I wanted YOU!" I had to look away because I was cracking up. What a kid! I kept thinking and thinking about what does he love so much that he wouldn't want to give up? Apparently the no treat and sitting on the edge didn't work. I thought over the weekend and I figured it out! I told him that if he cried tomorrow (the next Monday), that I would take away his blanket. When I told him that, he looked absolutely APPALLED! LOL. Seriously, he gave me a look like "how dare you tell me that you'll take my 'vwinky' away!" Ah ha! He told Kris all day he wouldn't cry and for Heaven's sakes, the little turd didn't cry at all! He was with Hannah having a good ol' time and kept hollaring to me, "Mommy, I get my vwinky tonight, right? Me not crying, mommy!" He was waving and laughing with Hannah. Wow. I really have to keep on my toes with him. I just have to remember to be smarter than a 3 yr old. lol. For the next 2 wks of lessons, he never cried one more tear! He got his vwinky every night after that. What a little munchkin!!! At the beginning of lessons, he needed armies and the inner tube and couldn't be left alone to float. By the end of lessons, he was down to just the armies and was jumping in and floating all by himself! He even jumped off of the low board!!!! I had told Eileen (manager) that I just wanted him to get used to the water and he certainly did that. I was so impressed with him!

*****

Mercedes hadn't passed lessons last year and when I scheduled lessons this year, I asked Eileen to have a bit more "pushy" teacher as I felt she would do better with one who actually worked with her instead of talked with her friends the entire time. :0) She had a teacher by the name of Soonja (rhymes with moon-ja) and she was FABULOUS!!! She and Mercedes did wonderful together and Mercedes thought she was great! I even talked with Eileen later about what a great teacher Soonja was. Mercedes jumped off of the low board, too, with no assistance!!! By the end of lessons, she was bumped up 2 CLASSES!!!! I was sooooooo proud of her!! Kaylee Divine was also in lessons at the same time, so that was great that the 2 of them were together. Mercedes did so well and by the end of lessons, she was able to swim a bit without her armies!! Wooo hooooo!!

Sierra had the teacher that Mercedes had last year, but she does much better with the older kids. She can just tell them what to do and they do it. Sierra really liked her (I can't remember what he name was!). Wait! It was Abby. Sierra swims like a little fish and jumps off of both boards just fine. She passed (like usual) and I forget what class she's in now. She asked Eileen if she could work at the pool when she gets older. lol. Eileen told her to give her a call in a few yrs. lol. Sierra would be an AWESOME teacher. She's so good with the kids.

MY KIDS ARE SO AWESOME!!! THANK YOU, GOD, FOR BLESSING ME AND JON!!

Peace.
